After six years of success at Technovations, Ryan accepts a one-year assignment in Auckland, New Zealand. This assignment will advance his career, but his husband Aaron dreads the prospect of a one-year separation.

While Ryan is in New Zealand, COVID strikes. His life remains mostly unaffected, but the stress of the pandemic, the social isolation, and their separation take an emotional toll on Aaron. Ryan’s brother Brandon, a senior at Arizona State University, moves in when ASU shifts to online classes. Aaron welcomes Brandon’s companionship and support, but their dynamic changes as the pandemic drags on and Ryan’s return is repeatedly delayed.

When Ryan returns, he finds his marriage in ruins. Their situation is further complicated by Ryan’s high school boyfriend moving to town, the return of Ryan’s estranged father, and a visit from two LDS missionaries. Ryan, Aaron, Brandon, and everyone else must navigate these upheavals to rebuild their lives and find happiness in a changed post-pandemic world.

Maybe Now is the epic conclusion to the six-book series “Gay Tales for the New Millennium.” It’s filled with action, drama, and character growth. By the end, the storylines that have spanned across the series receive closure and most of the characters are well-positioned to live “happily ever after.” You can read Maybe Now independently, but you’ll enjoy an optimal experience by reading the other books first, in sequence.

5-Star Reviews for Maybe Now

“Hughes’ writing is consistently strong and extremely accessible. As with his previous titles, the author has written an unabashedly and
unapologetically frank book that celebrates gay men, their (at times complicated) relationships, and their sexuality in no uncertain terms.
Hughes has a talent for making the implausible plausible, finding a way to mine the emotional truths of his characters,
and successfully putting them into words and actions. And he somehow conveys this in a sexy, heartfelt, and empowering way.
There were moments when I laughed out loud and others that brought tears to my eyes, which would have been enough.
But I also felt a renewed sense of pride in being gay, a heart full of joy at being alive, and a sense of hope for the future.”

“Maybe Now is a touching and engrossing novel that beautifully explores love, loyalty, and the struggles of relationships during the pandemic.
Hughes blends all these elements into a heartfelt, emotional narrative about the resilience of love and the importance of adapting to life’s changes.
Maybe Now is an engaging and relatable read, perfect for those seeking a poignant post-pandemic love story.”

“I have read this series from the beginning and have loved it so much! This book is a wild ride, and you really feel like you are there with the characters
throughout their journey. It was hard to put this down, and even though it was the last in the series, it left me with a feeling of satisfaction.
I am a huge fan of the nuances in Dave’s writing. He has a way of making the scenes come alive with remarkable attention to detail,
weaving between the characters and their situations. You never quite know where things are heading, and it’s fun to see how all the little details connect.”

“This sixth book in the series continues the compelling life story of Ryan, now a young man who has overcome numerous challenges to achieve success in both life and love.
Characters from his past are skillfully revisited and further developed, seamlessly woven into the narrative. I appreciated the straightforward, linear storyline and
the relatable characters,
both of which made the story easy to follow. Dave Hughes’ approachable writing style kept me engaged throughout.”
