What are these books about?

I always keep an inventory of my paperback books for in-person events, sales to friends, etc.

At this time, I have a surplus of my first four novels. My sixth book, Maybe Now, will be released on September 27, so now is the perfect time to offer you the opportunity to purchase my earlier books directly from me for ONLY 5 DOLLARS each! You will enjoy hours of engaging stories as you catch up on all the characters and their lives leading up to the sixth (and final) book in the “Gay Tales for the New Millennium” series, and I get to clear some space on my shelves. It’s a win-win!

I am not overstocked on my fifth book, Karma Train from Kansas, so I’m not including it in this deal. However, I lowered the price on Amazon to $10 so you can save money on that, too.

If you prefer eBooks, the prices for all five novels have been reduced to $5 during September from all major eBook vendors (Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and others). Click on the book covers for the buying links.

If you’re a friend who lives in the Phoenix area, we can make plans to meet up; you’ll save the shipping charges and we’ll get to say “Hi!” and catch up. In this case, don’t use this form to order your books. Simply contact me by email at dave@authordavehughes.com. We’ll set up a meeting time and place where I can hand-deliver your books and you can pay me in person.

Better yet, come to my book release party on September 27, 6:00, at Exposed Studio & Gallery, 4225 N. 7th Avenue, Phoenix! I’ll have these books for $5 there, too.

The $5 price does not include shipping. Here are the media mail shipping rates for the United States:

  • 1 book: $6
  • 2 books: $7
  • 3 books: $8
  • 4 books: $9

If you are located outside the US, please contact me with the book(s) you wish to buy and I will compute a shipping cost for you.

Please note that I fulfill these orders myself. It may take up to a week to receive your book (but probably just a few days).

Thank you so much for your interest in my books. I’m humbled and grateful.

What are these books about?

“Gay Tales for the New Millennium” is a series of six novels that follow several characters as they complete high school, go through college, launch their careers, and build relationships into their early 30s. Along the way, these characters deal with the real-life events of the time, particularly those that pertain to the LGBTQ+ community. The final novel, Maybe Now, will be released on September 27.

The series begins in 2007 when two high school best friends gradually realize they’re in love. Chris, whose open-minded family is completely supportive, is ready and able to live his life out and proud. For Bryan, whose father is the pastor of a very conservative mega-church in Kansas, being gay simply isn’t an option. When Bryan is outed, his father will stop at nothing to force Bryan to “leave the homosexual lifestyle,” requiring Bryan and Chris to make some very difficult choices.

Bryan is the central character in the remaining novels, although he changes his name to Ryan for reasons you’ll learn near the end of Maybe Next Year. In subsequent novels, you’ll meet many new characters as Ryan goes through college, and even more as he settles into his professional career and experiences relationships. Inevitably, characters from the first book will find their way back into Ryan’s life as the years go by.

Each novel is written so that it can stand on its own. Each book will present enough background information to enable someone who hasn’t read the previous books to understand what’s going on. But for optimal enjoyment, read the entire series in sequence.

These books are contemporary gay fiction, telling compelling stories that reflect the lives of gay people, especially young adults, in the new millennium. They are not romance novels, in the formulaic sense, although romance is certainly a component. Nor are they erotica. There is adult language and there are many references to sexual activity, but there are no explicit descriptions of sex scenes. If these books were made into movies, they would be rated R. Discretion is advised for readers under 18.
